This happened after the turn of the century. I was in a graduate seminar, where the professor sat at the head of a long, rectangular table. During the conversation, I could never seem to catch his eye – I always managed, somehow, to be in his blind spot. So, each week, I moved seats, to try to get out of his blind spot. But, I never managed to. At my wit’s end, I asked the only other female student in the seminar whether she was having the same problem. Unbeknownst to me, she had been running the same experiment independently and came up with the same results.
