Not a past president any more

When women in philosophy leave the department for another part of academia, does the sexism stop? Ha! I was elected President of a large and fairly significant faculty group. That in itself was remarkable in my largely male-dominated university, but the honor was short-lived. After my one-year term, the following sort of thing started to occur: As president I had started on the nomination of our administrative assistant for an award. As past president, I still had an official role, but I found out that the nomination was completed and sent in without my name on it. I asked about this. I was told, “We decided to have only present and past presidents sign it.”
