I am a female postdoctoral fellow at a faculty of philosophy in Europe. It is a large and diverse faculty, over 25 tenured professors, all happen to be male. Over the past five years, they have hired several new faculty members, who all also happen to be male. The department made it very clear to me that they do not wish to support me for a tenured position, and that I should be happy with my postdoc. This is especially frustrating, given that I think that I have a good publication record [titles of excellent journals deleted to preserve anonymity]. Yet the university describes itself as an ‘equal opportunity employer’.
