“Not one woman among them”

I don’t have a gruesome story relating how discrimination worked against me: I’m lucky to be at a department where everyone is just happy to do philosophy, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race and/or ethnicity.

However, I still find this weird: this semester, I am the logic teacher. Logic is offered as an elective and not even Phil majors are required to take it (so there aren’t many students in the class to begin with.) What is weird about it is that all of my students are male undergraduates. Not one woman among them: I’ve never thought that something like this would happen. The only woman in that class is me. It is striking, but that’s all I can say.
