“When you go shopping with women..”

In a talk at a recent conference, a senior male philosopher [see below] was making a point about color perception, and said that people can and do get corrected in, say, saying that something is green rather than blue. He went on: “As often happens when you go shopping with women, because of our differences in color perception.”

I wrote this quote down at the time, during the talk, when I was very sure of it. He definitely used the generic “you,” not “I.”
